This is a quick list of details relating to the Guardian in the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana Account scheme.
- A “Guardian” under this scheme could be either one of the parents of the girl child, or a legal guardian so named.
- When opening the account, ID proof and address proof of the Guardian must be submitted for Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana.
- A legal affidavit must also be submitted at the time of opening the account that confirms the identity of the person as the legal guardian of the girl child.
- The Guardian will run the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana account until the girl child attains the age of 10 years.
- The Guardian’s role is to operate the account on behalf of the girl child, in the absence of one or both parents.
- In case the Guardian dies or is rendered incapable of operating the account when the girl child is under the age of 10:
- The account will be then handled by the parents if the parents are alive.
- The account will be then handed to the care taker of the child, provided the care taker submits relevant documents.
- Once the girl child attains the age of 10, she has all the operating rights and permissions relating to the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana account.
